Reliever Jake Cousins to Undergo Tommy John Surgery
Right-handed relief pitcher Jake Cousins will miss the remainder of the 2025 season and presumably the second half of the 2026 season, as he’s set to undergo Tommy John Surgery on Wednesday, per Yankees manager Aaron Boone.
Cousins did not indicate there was an issue with his elbow until he was pulled from a rehab assignment outing with High-A Hudson Valley earlier in June. He spent the first two and a half months of the season on the 60-day injured list with a forearm strain.
The Yankees acquired Cousins last May in a trade with the Chicago White Sox. Before 2024, he appeared in 51 games out of the Milwaukee Brewers’ bullpen from 2021 to 23.
The 30-year-old threw 38 innings with the Yankees in 2024, posting a 2.37 ERA with 53 strikeouts in 37 games. Cousins made five appearances in last year’s postseason, three of them in the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
