On Wednesday, the Yankees announced that 26 players were invited to MLB spring training. MLB.com reports that 65 players are tentatively scheduled to report to camp later this month.
You’ll notice all 26 players are considered non-roster invites, which means they are participating without a guaranteed contract or a part of the organization in the minor league system.
Four players invited are on MLB Pipeline’s top 30 prospect list for the Yankees: outfielder Spencer Jones (No. 2), shortstop George Lombard Jr. (No. 3), shortstop Roderick Arias (No. 4), and right-handed pitcher Chase Hampton (No. 6).
Eleven of the players invited to camp have experience at the MLB level. Among them are RHP Carlos Carrasco, 1B Dominic Smith, RHP Colten Brewer, INF Andrew Velazquez, C Alex Jackson, INF/OF Pablo Reyes, RHP Geoff Hartlieb, RHP Wilking Rodriguez, LHP Brandon Leibrandt, OF Duke Ellis, and OF Brennan Davis.
For the Yankees, pitchers and catchers report to spring training next Wednesday, February 12. New York begins Grapefruit League play on Feb. 21 at 1:05 p.m. EST against the Tampa Bay Rays at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida.
More to come!
